This morning, Mary and I walked Belts Road looking for the BREWER'S SPARROW
found by Bob Altman yesterday (and posted by Joel Geier). It took us about
ten seconds to find one almost where Bob described--1/4 mile from Gap Road,
but south of Belts--singing the first two phrases of their song--a buzzy
trill followed by unmusical, stuttered notes. Since we don't often see them,
it took us quite a while longer to make sure that it was, in fact, a
Brewer's Sparrow. After we walked the rest of the road, we heard and found
a second Brewer's counter-singing the same introductory phrases.

Also along Belts road were many LAZULI BUNTINGS and a yellow-breasted
KINGBIRD showing no white on the edges of its tail. We couldn't see any
other indication that it wasn't just a worn Western Kingbird. The local
Vesper Sparrows and Grasshopper Sparrows all eluded us.
