Greetings!
The nest which was shown on the News Hour with Jim Lehrer on 06/28/07 fledged its eaglet today at 1648 hours. I was fortunate to get most of it on tape for a little gravy on the spuds. An adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK flushed as I made my way to an advantageous observation point.
At 0740 hrs an AMERICAN BITTERN was in flight over mowed reed canary grass mounds on the fields of Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve on the northerly side of the Clean Water Services water quality lab.
The miscreant eaglet of Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve may very well still be around. The adults are using new perches & behaving differently while on them. The adults are not nearly so easily found as prior to 06/19/07, date of escape. The remaining M & F chicks appear to doing okay, though a week retarded as a result of having to divvy up the grub 3 ways. In about 10 days or less we should be seeing youngsters putting on a real air show...& I'm looking forward to a trio of young.
Cheers!
Dennis
Yours for better birding!
