OBOL,

Yesterday (4 July), Allison and I found a female/immature BLACK-CHINNED
HUMMINGBIRD at Bear Mountain, just west of Diamond Peak. This is the second
black-chinned we've found in that general area in the last couple of years.
It was an all green and gray (no rufous) hummer about the same size as the
common Rufous with a pale face and dark between the eye and bill, white
throat without streaking, and longer bill with a slight decurve to it.
Directions - take USFS road #21 past Hills Creek Reservoir to the Pioneer
Gulch road (USFS #2149) - Pioneer Gulch turns left a little less than a mile
past the Indigo Springs campground. Follow Pioneer Gulch road to the top of
the hill and go straight on USFS road # 2149-410 instead of taking the sharp
right on road #2149. Go down #2149-410 about a quarter mile to the first
right (road # 2149-411) and turn right through an open green gate. The bird
was working the wildflowers at the edge of the clearcut just a few hundred
feet past the gate. USFS road 21 turns right off of Highway 58 just east of
the town of Oakridge.
