Last weekend we stumbled upon a really easy place to see Ash-throated Flycatchers. We weren't even looking for them. The Mosier Tunnels trail is at the east end of the Columbia Gorge where the flora changes to high desert. It's not too far east of Hood River. We walked from the east entrance of the trail (all asphalt, handicap accessible). You'll pass by a scree field and then into an area where the woods is close to the trail. That's where we saw three of them last Saturday, late afternoon. Flying back & forth over the trail right before it breaks out of the trees. If you come to a left turn in the trail where you overlook the Columbia River, you've gone too far. But while you're there, look down and you'll see an active Osprey nest.
