If gulls ate less bread/garbage, they'd probably eat more Starlings/House
Sparrows.

or would they?

Maybe we could make this argument to those people who feed the gulls car trunk
loads of bread. 

I have wondered what percentage of the diets of the gulls at the gull puddle
consists of bread and other carbo hand-outs.
