Hi!

OK - here is my problem: I moved into this place in January - and
Goldfinches come back around in spring - this said because I don't know
what the yearly pattern is in the immediate area. I continue to hear
them - and see them - Don't hear a lot of mating song but I hears calls
& alarm, communication, see them flying over or perched.

In spring they came to my cheap WHITE thistle sock feeder - a few at a
time, on going and regularly. The males were not in full breeding
plumage then. Ever since I switched to one of those more heavy duty &
larger BLACK thistle, sock feeder I have had no am gold finches. Maybe
they are off breeding (as I know they do this later that other
passerines sometimes because I heard they feed the young seeds more than
insects and so now is the time for there to be lots of those around..).
It's just weird.

I'm in Portland, OR (well a close 'burb). Any one else out there have
similar experience or a hypothesis as to the reason this is so?

Feel free to email me direct if U desire.

Thanks
Jacqui
