Hello,

I can't precisely tell you when the peak of Acorn Woodpecker granary activity is. I do know the acorns of Q. garryana in the Willamette Valley are start falling from the trees starting late September through early November. For Acorn Woodpeckers, jays, squirrels and others may eat them as soon as the nut is big enough.

I'm teaching a workshop in processing acorns for human consumption on October 20th in Corvallis. I am also working on a second edition of my booklet on the subject. I use acorns like corn meal or as a thickener to make pudding, gravy etc.
