This morning, my Mom (Olive) and I went to the River
"S" Unit at Ridgefield NWR (~4mi W of I-5 at Exit 14
in SW Washington;
http://www.fws.gov/ridgefieldrefuges/ ). We were
assisting Bill Boehm with his video of the CEDAR
WAXWING nest activity. Actually we were more
hang-arounds than assistants.

CEDAR WAXWING NESTLINGS:
1- Al Larrabee, a Refuge Volunteer, told me that on
Sunday, only two Nestlings were seen out of the four
that were seen on Friday, July 20.
2- This morning, between 11:30 and Noon, the last two
fledged.

This morning we watched a parent feeding the two
remaining Nestlings a couple of times. Bill Boehm
stayed and observed the nest and videoed while I
walked over to the Kiwa Trail. The parents were gone
for nearly two hours, when the chicks all of a sudden
began peeping about three times as frequently. With a
parent in a tree about 15 feet away, the hungry chicks
flew straight out of the nest in pursuit of the
parent.

BULLOCK'S ORIOLE Nest: Still Active. I only saw one
chick, and I only saw the female feeding at the nest
near the R/R tracks just in front of the entrance
bridge.
