OBOL,
Birders headed along the Lincoln County coast between Newport and Waldport might want to keep an eye on the beach just north of Ona Beach State park in the next couple of months. Beaver Creek has shifted far to the west and south, leaving a sizeable chunk of dry sand beach to the east and north that is, at least at present, pretty much untrammeled by human traffic. I think the area has the potential of harboring some dry sand species like Snowy/Piping Plover or Dotterel. A long shot, to be sure, but it could happen. The incessant noise of traffic from nearby US 101 is a problem, but the beach itself is one of the few places in Lincoln County that is not overrun with people and dogs. There were quite a few killdeer hanging out in the scattered clumps of vegetation at the northern edge yesterday, and that suggests to me that other dryland species might find it attractive as well.
