Follow-up on crow soaking its food in the birdbath: I had a chance to
observe for awhile early this evening as the crow continued its unexpected
behavior. The crow brought what looked like a big piece of bread and put it
in the water. It ate some, then flew to the fir with a little soggy bread
in its beak. It came back, retrieved the rest of the bread from the water,
ate some, and took more back to the fir. Baby food! It's getting all the
food soggy to feed to its young. Maybe this isn't a scientific study or
anything, but the last two days its (don't know if both parents are doing
this) made numerous trips to the birdbath, soaked whatever food it brought,
ate some for itself and -- more clear from watching this evening -- brought
some to the nest. I didn't know crows prepared food for its young like
this. Lona Pierce, Warren
