Hello

Steve and Sybil Kohl and myself had a successful trip to southern oregon searching for Yellow Rail and Black Swift. We left on Thursday morning June 7 and returned Friday afternoon June 8.

We arrived at Salt Creek Falls at about 2:00 in the afternoon. We spent about 1 hour there, but we never saw the Black Swift. We went to our hotel in Chemult, left our bags there, then headed to the Klamath Marsh.

At about 3:00 pm we stopped at MP 6.2 on Silver Lake Rd. but we didn't hear any Yellow Rails. At MP 6.5 we heard one Yellow Rail calling for about 3 minutes. We also had about 6 Black Terns near the turn off to Wocus Bay.

After dinner in Chiloquin we headed to Fort Klamath and the Kimball historical marker to look for the Yellow Rails. At about 7:30 pm we saw a rail fly up and land about 25m away. We were able to locate the bird sitting in the short grass. This was directly behind the sign to the historical museum. We had scope views and watched it for about 4 minutes.

On Friday morning we headed back up to Salt Creek Falls. At about 8:00 am we arrived at
the falls and after waiting about 20 minutes we had 4 Black Swifts.

Thats all
