A good morning for Dave Bontrager's Bird Song Class. Dave, who has studied ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS for many years, spotted a flycatcher with "a buoyant flight" and pegged it as an Ash-throated. We all got good looks of this rare-for-our-parts bird, appropriately in an Ash tree. We were at Elijah Bristow State Park, east of Eugene off of Hwy 58. After entering the park, follow the road over a little bridge. At the second parking area on your left past the bridge, go a short way up the "Pond Trail" to find the area where we saw the Ash-throated Flycatcher.
We also saw, but did not see, two RED-EYED VIREOS high up in cottonwoods.
A fine morning not only for bird song but also for rarities!
