Sorry this is so late, but our barn owl babies have started to fledge
before I was aware -- been too busy elsewhere. Johnny watched one fly
out Friday night. Saturday there were only 2 left in the nest (out of
5). Today, Sunday, one fledgling was back in the nest so there were 3.
They often come back to the nest for a few days after their first
flight. Last evening there was one flying around the barn screaming and
at least one other in the trees in front of the barn talking. If anyone
wants to climb the ladder to see the two remaining in the nest, you are
welcome to come during the day -- email the day before. Or if anyone
wants to come at dusk and take your luck at seeing the babies flying
about, also email the day before. We meant to have our traditional baby
owl party but time got away from us. Last year there was no party
because the owls didn't nest. I think the two clutches they raised the
year before wore them out.
Floyd Schrock took a great photo of the 5 babies in the nest that is on
his website: http://empids.blogspot.com/
