Hi Folks,
Marilyn Christian and I attended the OFO annual meeting in Bend this
weekend and had a wonderful time! Today while birding at Glaze
Meadow we were astounded to see 5 baby Northern Pygmy Owls!!! It was
absolutely incredible. Then Marilyn and I stopped at the Little
Deschutes River/Hwy 58 crossing on the way home and saw another
Northern Pygmy Owl--an adult! We scanned all the trees looking for
babies but couldn't find any. Other than the owl the area was not
very birdy--lots of nighthawks, a Red-breasted Sapsucker and audibles
(I could see that spectrogram in my head!) on Song Sparrow and Yellow
Warbler.

Many thanks to all the folks who made the OFO weekend a success and
for making two "newbies" feel welcome. The speakers were really
interesting--with tons of practice at deciphering them, I may yet
understand a spectrogram! We met lots of nice folks, and I got to
put faces with names on OBOL posts. Special thanks to Judy, Diane,
Cynthia, Tom, Howard and Peter--the field trips were the best.
Marilyn got several lifers, and I got some state birds and a bunch of
county birds. I look forward to the next annual meeting.

Thanks everyone,
Julie Van Moorhem
