There were five White Pelicans by the Narrows
dam at 8am, the first I have ever seen west of the
Cascades. An adult Bald Eagle sitting in the fence
line of dead ash trees and an adult Peregrine sitting
in the lone dead ash by itself to the se of this fence
row. One Black-necked Stilt flying over the north shoreline.
When I first visited BSNWR 34 years ago, any one of
these species would have been major news, one of the
highlights of the year. This Thursday I saw all four
species simultaneously, as a result of my fruitless
search for a grackle. Lars Norgren
