dry mud flats then head North, towards the Shore Lane Burn. The tall, recently
burned cottonwood trees near Shore Lane are visible from Royal. It's about a
20 minute walk north from Royal. It's very dry, so boots aren't necessary.
Eventually you will come to an area of wet mud and reedbeds about halfway between
the observation tower in the Fisher Unit and the Shore Lane Burn. The
Sharp-tailed Sandpiper was with ~ 100 Western Sandpipers and 40 Long-billed
Dowitchers. It was still there when I left. I hope it sticks around, I got a few
pictures if anyone is interested in seeing them, let me know.
