When I checked my e-mail at noon I was completely blown away. I think I left a
message on Ken Wright's cell (he is in Lillooet right now) about "did he want
to see a tubenose in Lillooet" Dick has kindly forwarded the pictures I've seen
on and I've taken a few more - the working hypothesis is that it is a Cook's
petrel. Probably a juvenile but I'll let the experts speak to that.

Hi all:
I'll let Ian Routley fill in the details when all is known, but I thought that
BC birders might like to know that a Pterodroma petrel, almost surely a Cook's
Petrel, was picked up tired but alive in Lillooet yesterday. Undoubtedly
carried by the latest Pineapple Express, this is a seabird that breeds in New
Zealand waters. It is rarely seen off the Pacific coast of North America. Ian
Routley and Ken Wright have taken pictures which have been sent to various
experts for confirmation of the identification.
So keep your eyes open--you never know what might be flying by.
cheers
