We have had one or more on every Coos Bay CBC since
1997 and none from 1972 through 1996. My unproven
theory is that once upon a time, prior to the days of
DDT, this species may have once actually overwintered
more regularly in Oregon. Now that it has recovered
from the DDT days, like several other raptor species,
it is now overwintering in several locations in Oregon
once again. Just my theory, anyone have any more
solid data on the pre-DDT days?
