Just out of curiosity, are Black-Headed Grosbeaks somewhat common in backyards in Eugene? (I've only lived out here for about a year.) If so, I have something to look forward to this summer. I haven't seen a Grosbeak at my feeders since the late '80s!

Kat & Bill's backyard heard-only grosbeak: Hmm . . . . Since we are early
March I think I would make sure it is NOT a starling before I would add it
to any list. Heard and seen starlings in our neighborhood are currently
doing the songs of Western Meadowlarks, Killdeer, and Western Wood Pewees. A
rookie robin might also be a contender for the culprit.
Just a thought.
