The 3nd Applegate-Williams area raptor survey was completed today (03-08-07). Route is along the roads surrounding the towns of Murphy and Williams, Josephine Co. Was unable to do a February survey for various reasons.
Total of 36.9 miles; 3.75 hours; weather: Partly cloudy/overcast. Found were:
Red-tailed Hawk - 16 (some pairs, in air and perched)
American Kestrel - 2
Prairie Falcon - 1
Merlin - 1
Others: TURKEY VULTURE - 8
Way less diversity this time out; NO Red-shouldered Hawk or White-tailed Kites detected. As in another message, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was found.
Lots of Tree Swallows around now. OAK TITMOUSE singing near Williams.
