Clatsop Beaches: Clatsop County

In my continuing quest to find one of these rare pelagics just _before_
it is dead, I went out again this evening after the coffee shop closed
where I was working. I drove from Gearhart to the N. end of Camp Rilea
(Delura Beach, I think). The stormy conditions made visibility to 100 m
or so. Also I needed to only watch a 10 m strip of wet sand and the surf
area because the wind was drying and picking up the sand on the rest of
the beach such that anything up beach from the wet sand was shrouded in
NE oriented vermiform bands of sand only 10 cm above the ground.

I almost found a live bird when I spotted a fresh and still in rigger
mortise HORNED PUFFIN adult. The only other new bird was a RHINOCEROS
AUKLET in similar but limp condition. There are probably Mottled Petrels
and Thick-billed Murres out there right now breathing their last breaths....
