Date: March 15, 2007
Location: Clatsop Beaches, Clatsop County, Oregon

Percentage of sky covered by clouds: 20%
Precipitation: none

Today I surveyed the beach from the Gearhart auto access to the S.
end of Camp Rilea. The Rilea reach of beach was closed because they
were conducting live ammo exercises at the military reservation.

Of note today were several new wrecked birds as well as much new
washed up flotsam such as plastic bottles and plastic floats. These
were all in a wrack line lower than where I have been finding wrecked
birds in the last week of surveying. Apparently a rip out in the
ocean was disturbed enough by the novel North and West winds of late
to break up and deposit it contents into a shore bound current.

Birds seen (in taxonomic order):

Rhinoceros Auklet (Cerorhinca monocerata) 6
Horned Puffin (Fratercula corniculata) 4
Tufted Puffin (Fratercula cirrhata) 1

Total number of species seen: 3
