Today (Mar. 15) the VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS returned to my neighborhood,
and immediately began to claim the nestboxes.

Also, my first brilliantly-colored YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER of the season
was here enjoying the birdbath. I have long wondered why our
wintering warblers do not appear to have started molting into bright
alternate plumage before these spring migrants suddenly show up in
glowing colors. Where do our winter birds go to molt, and why do they
wait so long to do it? Or maybe I've just been overlooking something
that happens right here; if so, it's not because I haven't looked for
it.

While I was watching the Swallows, I also noticed in the distance my
first TURKEY VULTURE of the season near town, although I saw several
near the river last weekend.

"See what tomorrow brings."
