Dan et al.,
Merlins can and do take pigeons, hence their former name "Pigeon Hawk". A
few years ago I found a Merlin sitting on top of the recently killed Rock
Pigeon on the Jefferson Middle School athletic field in s. Eugene. As I
approached the bird it took off carrying the dead pigeon several hundred
yards before dropped it in the middle of Polk St.
