Good Morning OBOLers,
Several birders in my area are interested in developing a Blue Mountains
or Northeast Oregon Birding Trail. It seems an overwhelming task. Can
anyone put me in touch with some of the folks who worked on the Coast
and/or Cascades Birding Trails so that I may pick their brains a little?
A search on the WEB shows a Blue Mountains Trail "under development"
but I can't find anyone locally that knows anything about it and don't
know who decided on the loop that is shown. As yet, there are no stops,
just a loop. At any rate, any help in how to start and how to proceed
will be welcome.
About the birds at Ladd Marsh today....
We had large number of NORTHERN PINTAILS move through but
most have moved on along with most of the AMERICAN WIGEONs. Still large
numbers of GREENWING TEAL, NORTHERN SHOVELER, GADWALL and CANADA GEESE
(western variety). About fifty GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE have been
here for a week or so along with 5 SNOW GEESE. We usually don't see
very many white geese here. SANDHILL CRANES continue to move through
while those that will stay to breed are beginning to stake territory.
The first AMERICAN AVOCET of the season was seen on the marsh on Monday
as was the fist GREATER YELLOWLEGS and the first 7 TURKEY VULTURES. The
rough-legged hawks are gone and the Swainson's hawks have not yet
arrived so the REDTAILED HAWKS have the place to themselves except for
the NORTHERN HARRIERS. Hundreds of TREE SWALLOWS may be wondering about
the wisdom of arriving last week since the weather has turned cold this
week. I have not seen any other swallows here yet. Well, that is a
sample of what's happening on Ladd Marsh.
Thanks for any information on birding trails,
