Marcia,

I've been trying to get out for a little walk before work these last few
mornings. On Wednesday I heard an Anna's courtship "POP!" along Fanno Creek
on the east side of Beaverton. On Thursday I heard one at Camassia Preserve
in West Linn. [Also saw a chase between two birds.] In previous years we
have heard them at Pittock Mansion during the April-May Morning Birdsong
Walks.

It's a great time to be out.

Good birding, everyone,

While gardening this afternoon, I was serenaded by the zittering of a male
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD. After a bit, this was interspersed with a louder chirp
sound that at first I didn't place. I finally realized that it could be the
sound the Anna's hummer makes during its courtship dive. Sure enough, I
looked
up and spotted the male Anna's Hummer making about 5 rather semi-circular or
J-shaped dives. He then zipped over to a tree and met with another
hummingbird
and they both quickly flew off.

I thought Anna's hummingbirds nested earlier than this. Would they still be
doing courtship displays?
