OBOL,
Birding continued to be interesting on Eugene's Skinner Butte this
morning with mixed groups of warblers and vireos on the move, lots of
WESTERN TANAGERS, crowned sparrows etc. The DUSKY FLYCATCHER which was in
the east meadow yesterday morning was still there when Maitreya, Jim Regali,
Tom Mickel and I walked down today. Tom had seen a MCGILL. WARBLER near the
parking area earlier; at the reservoir Maitreya pointed out a CHIPPING
SPARROW. We saw one vocalizing RED CROSSBILL, the various nests were
active. Al Prigge and Bill Hunter were there birding, also. A LAZULI
BUNTING was singing on station on the Alton Baker dump, and back home at
noon the CALLIOPE HUMMER made another appearance, not yet chased off despite
the best efforts of the male RUFOUS which has been trying to defend the
feeder.
    Don DeWitt, Eugene
