OBOL:
During the Morning Birdsong Walk at Camassia Preserve in West Linn we came
upon a GRAY FLYCATCHER. It was sitting low in the southwest corner of the
large meadow, across from the quarry. We watched it for several minutes,
flycatching from various perches less than waist high, from 50' away.
Directions to Camassia Preserve: Take Exit 8 off I-205 and turn toward
Oregon City (but don't cross the river). At the 76 gas station, turn right
then left to follow Willamette Falls Dr. Turn right on Sunset, cross I-205,
and immediately turn right on Walnut Street. The preserve is at the end of
Walnut Street.
Note: The rules of the preserve require visitors to stay on trails. There
is quite a lot of poison oak.
Description: Empidonax flycatcher, flycatching.
All gray plumage, pale eyering. No hint of yellow or olive.
Round head.
Pumped tail down.
No vocalization heard.
Observed with 8X Leitz binoculars.
