This morning I found three AMERICAN AVOCETS at the southern most pond of the
Fisher Butte Unit at Fern Ridge Reservoir, Lane Co. The three were moving
around a lot, so if you go looking for them be sure and look at other ponds.
I first had them fly over the Fisher Butte parking lot headed south toward
the East Coyote Unit. A few minutes later I had them at the southern most
pond at Fisher Butte where the numerous Black-necked Stilts were chasing
them. Later in the morning I had them fly in and land on the island in the
western most pond where the White Pelicans (six were there this morning)
hang out. And, a few minutes later I had one fly over me and land in the
next pond to the east, where the Tufted Duck was seen earlier in the spring.
Other birds of note were a pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL, in the very northeast
corner of the southern most pond at Fisher Butte, and a BONAPARTE'S GULL
with the other gulls at the "pelican" island. I only had two BLACK TERNS
and one CASPIAN TERN.
