I wish to thank all who responded to my Wrentit locations request. I received about a dozen emails. OBOLers are awesome! I have listed the locations shared at the bottom and a few tips provided and learned. We did hear at least 25 Wrentits and had three decent sightings on our trip. Our best sighting was near the end of Cape Lookout trail where it seemed we were in the center of Wrentit territory. We had a face to face encounter about 100 yards from the tip of the cape. (It's a 5 mile round trip walk)
TIPS gathered and learned:
1. Calling the birds works. If you can't learn to whistle their call, take along a recording. I recorded the Wrentit call from my Stokes CD onto my little digital recorder and got a response on my very first try at Winema!
2. Salal plants are the best place to be looking and calling.
3. Before midday is good.
