Hi OBOLers,

This message came out via Corvallis Audubon. I'll leave it to Roy Gerig,
Bill Tice and others who knew Rich better, to speak to the reasons why
Oregon birders have a lot to thank Rich Guadagno for. This trail
dedication seems like a very fitting tribute to his memory.

All,

You are invited to a special event to be held at Baskett Slough National
Wildlife Refuge off of Coville Road, Dallas, Oregon, on June 2, 2007,
from noon to 7:00 PM. We recently found out that the Baskett Butte Loop
Trail is being nominated as the 1000th National Recreation Trail in the
United States. Also this trail is being renamed the "Rich Guadagno
Memorial Trail" for Rich Guadagno, a Refuge Manager for Baskett Slough
and Ankeny NWRs from 1992 to 2000, who lost his life as a hero on Flight
93 on 9/11.

The event will start at noon with bird, plant, butterfly, and marsh
walks. Biologists will be providing guided walks to view these species.
There will be fun activities for children as well as adults. The refuge
complex' Friends organization will be hosting this event from noon to
4:00 PM. You will have the opportunity to view Fender's blue
butterflies along the walk and many other unique species and habitats.
At 4:00 PM the refuge will host speakers from Washington, D.C., NPS,
USFWS, State of Oregon and Rich's sister Lori, who is flying in from the
East coast. After the dedication, a caterer will be providing
refreshments and a special cake.

I hope all of you will set this day aside and join us for this special
event. Please forward this message to others to help us get the word
out.
