My husband and I took a wonderful float trip from Perkins Peninsula Park to the Coyote Creek canoe access point and back. It was a most birdy day, with highlights of male LAZULI BUNTINGS having a colorful territorial tiff, singing BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, B-T GRAY WARBLERS, YELLOW, WILSON, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, WW PEWEES everywhere, a close encounter with a WESTERN GREBE, and many others. The most exciting thing, however, was the pair of BLACK PHOEBES engaged in nest-building under the bridge at the Coyote Creek canoe put-in. The nest was in its early stages, maybe an inch or so high. We didn't stick around very long so as not to be too disturbing to the birds. It was a real treat to see. Happy birding, one and all.
