On Saturday I was on a nekton sampling field trip with the Fisheries
Technology class at the Barview Jetty ;).
We saw large numbers of RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, the greatest numbers at any
one time being about 2000. They were feeding in the rip-tide by the jetty,
at times les than 10 meters away from us. A WANDERING TATTLER was also on
the rocks, and 1 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE flew over.

Today there were about 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE on the Necanicum Estuary.
Also watched a BALD EAGLE take about 4 of 6 MALLARD ducklings from a totally
exposed hen out in the river channel. The eagle picked them off one at a
time, while the crows got one he/she missed. The hen was last seen flying
at about 50 mph out of sight in last-ditch effort to lead the eagle away
from the one remaining duckling.
