[obol] White-tailed Kite, Vancouver, WA 10/31/07

Did anybody see this bird at Vancouver Bottoms today after about 8:30AM?

If not, I may have seen it--from the Pittock Mansion.  A good-sized
raptor was flying SW at least a mile east (i.e., over downtown Portland)
at eye level.  Before I put binocs to it, I thought it was a gull,
judging mostly by its languid but direct flight.  In the binocs, it
showed a strikingly long tail with broad-based, pointed wings.
Otherwise, it was a just a silhouette.  I had been thinking,
"gee, maybe a gyr?", but after seeing this post, an (admittedly dim)
bulb just lit up in my head.
