Peter and OBOL -

One thing I've learned from answering the phone at Audubon Society of
Portland is that people who phone in are very, very attached to their
sightings and identifications, and my chances of being told I am
wrong are very, very good. We've had calls from Portland about
Phainopepla (Steller's Jay) and even Ivory-billed Woodpecker
(Pileated, of course), and I once had a woman get very angry with me
when I suggested the "loons" she said she observed perched on pilings
along the Willamette and spreading their wings to dry were Double-
Crested Cormorants.

Good birding!

Marcia
