Obol,

I went for a walk this evening/late afternoon in the
Springfield half of Alton Baker park. It was very
birdy. Best bird was a very scruffy-looking, probable
EURASIAN WIGEON, (though perhaps a hybrid
American/Eurasian? see below and photos) hanging out
with a total of about 50 American Wigeon. The other
notable bird was a Spotted Sandpiper at the far east
stretch of the river, near Island Park. I know they
winter in this area normally, but it's nice to see
them for my fall list.

The Eur. Wigeon was really scruffy-looking. He did not
look like breeding-plumaged male at all, unless he was
a breeding-plumaged hybrid between Eurasian and
American Wigeon, like Steve McDonald was talking about
in his wigeon photos. Any thoughts?
