OBOL:

The story of the novice and the expert (paraphrased from memory from a
tribute to Roger Tory Peterson in Birdwatcher's Digest)

One time, when Roger Tory Peterson was birding at Sanibel Island, Florida,
her overheard a woman telling a group that some Great Egrets were Roseate
Spoonbills. RTP politely corrected her, telling her that they were Great
Egrets. The woman replied that they were indeed spoonbills, pointing to the
illustration in the field guide. RTP answered her, "Lady, I wrote that
book." To which she replied, "Yeah, and I'm Rodger Tory Peterson!" Roger
left it at that, with a kindly smile...

Good birding, everyone,

Paul Sullivan
