I live in Central Oregon and my yard is 2.5 acres with lots of Juniper trees. I have 94 species on my list and I count the flyovers when I can get em.

My current residence is in a relatively wooded, but heavily-populated and cat-infested neighborhood in Eugene. I've been feeding birds there for maybe a year and a half and have kept records over that time. I'm up to 43 species now, which is think is pretty good considering the circumstances. Since my "yard" is probably less than 1/4 acre, I'm including basically everything that I can identify with binoculars from my window. If I were to only include birds that have come up to my property/feeders/baths, the number would probably still be in the upper 30's.

Lisa asked if 50 birds is about average for a yard bird count. Maybe if enough people answer her question we'll have some idea. I have 68 species for my yard (less than an acre) but including nonnatives it goes to 73 species. 73 does not include birds that I only see overhead (eagles, geese, etc.), nor those that I see on acreage next door but haven't seen on our property (winter wren, kingfisher, etc.).
