Once the fog and mist cleared, it was beautiful at Smith and Bybee this morning. A full list of birds seen is at birdnotes.net but highlight was a calling RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. There are still lots of waterfowl, and 9 GREAT EGRETS (4 on Smith, 5 on Bybee).
Afterwards as I started to pull out of the parking lot on my way out at about 12:30, I noticed a very large soaring white bird with black posterior edges of the wings. I quickly got out of the car and with my binoculars and confirmed it was an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN with its huge orange bill. I watched it soar for awhile and then it went below the treeline so I'm not sure if it landed on the lakes or not, but it clearly had not been on the lakes earlier. Seems pretty late for one of them to be around.
