There were a few immature THAYER'S GULLS around the Charleston harbor.
Off Fossil Pt in Empire, there was 1 female BLACK SCOTER & 1 BONAPARTE'S
GULL. I kicked up 8 WILSON'S SNIPE on the walk out along the algae wrack
line.
On the opposite side of the bay on the north spit, there were 40
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER amongst a couple hundred DUNLIN & SANDERLING. Further
out the spit at the jetty, but still bayside were 15 THAYER'S GULLS & 5
HERRING GULLS in a large gull flock that was mostly made up of CALIFORNIA
GULLS. Curiously, most of the HEGU were immature while the THGU were
adults. Not much on the beach except 3 SNOWY PLOVERS. On the drive back
through the Snowy Plover nesting section of the beach road were 3 LAPLAND
LONGSPURS feeding in the road.
Good birding,
Russ Namitz
