There has been a really small juvenile Sharp-shin (likely male, not much larger than a Robin) at our place too. This morning it landed on a large rock I just placed out for birds, etc to get up on. ...so, a few yard of me stands the Sharp-shin on top of my rock placement scouting for breakfast.

Dennis (north of Grants Pass)

This morning, a juvenile SHARP-SHINNED HAWK descended on a flock of ~10 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES eating at one of my tube feeders. I happened to be standing right in front of my livingroom window when the hawk landed on a tree branch literally about 2-3 feet in front of me. After about five seconds, it few up into a pine tree and hung out there about 15' off of the ground for almost an hour (and didn't flinch when the FedEx guy walked right under him). A couple hours later, I heard a bird smack into my other livingroom window and saw a Sharpie (presumably the same one) trying to flush a Goldfinch out of the Rhododendron bush. This one couldn't have been more than two feet from the window.

I've seen Sharpies hunt Goldfinches in my yard before, but they've never gotten this close to the house. I didn't realize that they were so bold... or maybe this one is just really hungry. Either way, it was a fascinating sight.
