Carolyn and I drove the Bend-Alfalfa Raptor Survey route on Sat. 11/17. Raptor counting was slow but rainbow counting was high. There were rainbows in the sky over most of the route. The highlight of the route was a dark morph Rough-legged Hawk in Alfalfa. It was almost black with white primaries on underside wings. At first I thought it was a dark Ferruginous that didn't act like a Ferruginous. The tail was dark and had the banding marks of a Rough-legged. We watched it fly around and hover over hay fields for several minutes.
The weather was windy 5-20mph, the temp was 50-55 degrees F., and there was light showers to sunny skies.

Raptors Seen;
Red-tailed hawk            16                        Prairie Falcon            1
Am. Kestrel                     9                         Sharp-shinned Hawk  1
N. Harrier                         3
Rough-legged Hawk      3
Ferruginous Hawk          3
