[obol] Why does Alan want all this stuff?

Astute observers everywhere are asking "Why is Alan asking for all this odd
bird stuff?" The TRUTH can be found below.

Hendrik Herlyn and I are working with OSU Press to produce a field-friendly
paperback digest of the status, distribution and seasonality sections of
Birds of Oregon, to be accompanied by a complete new map set, including
winter maps, and vagrant seasonality graphs. We'll probably include some
i.d. material that is hard to find elsewhere, such as side-by-side
illustrations of flying alcids in winter.

We appreciate all of the assistance that people are providing to fill in
gaps that we perceive. We hope to have the animal on the street in 2009.
