I mentioned last week that portions of Birds of Oregon are being condensed
into a field-friendly reference that Oregon birders can easily carry with
them, if not in a pocket, certainly in a pack or car.

We are planning to include some illustrations in this handbook. Our intent
is to include those that are most likely to be useful to Oregon observers,
and which are not covered well in field guides, or covered in such a way as
to be not as useful in the field as we might wish. It is possible that
we'll have funding for 8 pages of color plates, but certainly some line and
wash art.

We'd like some input on what Oregon observers really want that they don't
have. Here are some ideas that we have had so far.

1 Page Types of Canada and Cackling Goose (photos or art)
.65 page flying loons (art) possibly include Red-necked and Horned Grebe
.35 page cormorants in flight (art)
1 page "Olympic" gull variants (photos?) including a pure Western and Gwing
1 page alcids (art) on water and in flight
.5 page juvenile and subadult swallows
Forms of Spotted Towhee? art
Carpodacus finches?
Spizella sparrows?
White-crowned Sparrow forms? art
pelagic seabirds in flight?

Please feel free to comment on these ideas and suggest others.
