I'm in very urban Beaverton and I have so many Goldfinches right now
over the last few weeks there have been more and more..... and I think
they might be lesser's because most of the males have the grey-darkish
backs. I'm looking at Sibleys and other books for field marks and now
will watch for the white wing patches and color of underwing coverts to
help me positively ID these guys.
So, I had some questions....
Do Lesser's and Americans flock together?
I have so many more Goldfinches than in the summer time... where I
thought most of them migrated South for winter. Are they still moving
through? Or are these residents staying the winter?
If anyone can direct me to some data and info re: Goldfinches in this
area that would be great!
In any case I am really enjoying seeing them. Today I had about 20 on
the big, white sock at once w/ about 10 perched around, waiting their turn.
I'm also getting hummers consistently - one at a time - assuming they
are Anna's - although from where I view them, they are back lit so it's
hard to see detailed field marks. Some h that have come seemed too small
for Anna's but.... not sure here...
Thanks
Jacqui
