Last weekend the weather was nice at Malheur, perhaps too nice, as I
found no real unusual birds. On Saturday and Sunday there were numerous
Yellow-rumped Warblers (mostly Audubon's), Ruby-crowned Kinglets and
White-crowned Sparrows everywhere, with a few Orange-crowned Warblers
mixed in at HQ. Migrants at HQ included a single Winter Wren along the
brick wall dividing the lawn areas, and a Lincoln's Sparrow that perched
in bushes near the large parking area. Townsend's Solitaires were
conspicuous at HQ and Page Springs. My best bird was a juvenile
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at Benson Pond on Saturday -- my first for the
county. Mountain Chickadees were still at HQ and Fields. That's all --
it was a nice weekend to camp out in SE Oregon.
