[obol] unexpected yard birds

Was surprised to see an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD today as I looked thru window into backyard. It was raining -- the hummer found the fushia shrub. This is a first at this time of year for my Columbia County yard. Another late hummer was here the day after the fall bird count, but I really expected that to be the last hummer I'd see until the rufous arrive next spring.
Another surprise: yesterday a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH was taking seeds out of a feeder. Not a first for this species in the yard -- they just never use the feeders or suet like the more common red-breasted do. Have been getting around a dozen BAND-TAILED PIGEONS and similar number of GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS for at least a week now to my feeders. Lona Pierce, Warren
