Sunday through today, Fred Chancy and I drove to Lake County and located JUNIPER TITMICE for his life list and my state list. The birds we found were up a draw above a dirt/mud road east of Drake Creek on Hwy 140 to Adel. Also present there were numerous TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES, and a pair of MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES. Solitaires were seen and heard at several stops we made.

When driving through Summer Lake yesterday morning, we found a COMMON TERN feeding on the pond next to the road.

The Forest Service office in Sisters had a Steller's Jay that had over half it's upper mandible missing. The bird has been observed there for three years.

Along Hwy 126, below Clear Lake, we observed a SOOTY GROUSE feeding next to the road. It seemed unbothered by the traffic speeding by.

A fun trip and good birding.

regards,
Diane Pettey
