Thought I would share as I celebrate the return of cacklers to the valley! We saw the first groups arrive just in front of a big stormy cloud with rainbows over the marsh at Baskett around 10 am today, by noon there were at least 100. Then at Ankeny, I saw a small flock flying in to Eagle Marsh (not much room left with so many ducks hanging out there). So begins the wintering of geese!
Also was surprised to see the large numbers of swallows at both refuges. They were closely following the tractor mowing a field at Ankeny, fun to watch their acrobatics at close range...
Happy October,
Molly~
