I received a call today from Dick and Sally Shook who had spotted exotic finches in North Clackamas Park. I met with them in the Park and took some digiscopes, then had a pet store i. d. the birds as Zebra Finches. While we thought the intricately marked gray with rufous cheek patch birds were the males and the all-white the female.. turns out both colors are males according to the store owner. I have one shot showing four of the gray and one white and there were at least two other white, for a flock of at least seven. I have a photo of a gray and a white at: http://home.earthlink.net/~s.berliner/
The pet store man said they ARE capable of living here all seasons, but I have no idea if they're nesting and breeding in wild here. They appeared to feed on English Hawthorne berries, and foraged on the ground as well.
